The Light FM listeners donate more than $313,000 to area pregnancy centers

Asheville, N.C., May 10, 2019 – Listeners of the radio station The Light FM donated enough money on May 9 to provide 1,790 women with ultrasounds and faith-based support through the station’s “Heartbeat of Hope” campaign. Three days before Mother’s Day, the station partnered with seven area pregnancy centers to bring awareness to their services including pregnancy tests, counseling, ultrasounds and post-abortion programs.

The Light FM’s campaign reminded listeners that they could provide women with an ultrasound and faith-based support for $175. The station shared the compelling message that 95 of 100 women who are wrestling with a decision about their pregnancy will choose life when they see their child’s beating heart at a crisis pregnancy center. The flood of responses in such a short amount of time showed how much The Light FM’s listening community supports these centers.

Listeners who donated had the choice to “give where they live,” choosing a specific crisis pregnancy center to support. Every dollar donated was directly given to one of these centers:

  • Mountain Area Pregnancy Services in Asheville, N.C.
  • Pregnancy Care Center of Catawba Valley in Hickory, N.C.
  • Smoky Mountain Pregnancy Center in Franklin, N.C.
  • Hope Resource Center in Knoxville, Tenn.
  • Crisis Pregnancy Center of Gaston County in Gastonia, N.C.
  • Carolina Pregnancy Center in Spartanburg, S.C.
  • Palmetto Woman’s Center in Rock Hill, S.C.

“We give God all the glory for the results we’ve seen from Thursday’s ‘Heartbeat of Hope’ one-day fundraiser.” said Jim Kirkland, executive director of Blue Ridge Broadcasting. “Listeners donated $57,000 more than they did last year, meaning they’re providing 327 more ultrasounds. That’s tangible, profound, life-impact given in Christ’s name!”

The Light FM has also provided an option for listeners to give to other pregnancy centers beyond the seven featured. By texting “HEART” to 1-800-293-1069, listeners can receive a list of 17 centers in the listening area.
