The Light FM celebrated 60 years of ministry on Friday, May 27. Once a small station in western North Carolina, The Light FM now broadcasts to a seven-state area that includes the metro regions of Asheville and Charlotte; Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina; as well as the Tri-Cities and Knoxville, Tennessee. The station was founded by Billy and Ruth Graham in 1962 and has been operated by Blue Ridge Broadcasting ever since.
Over the next few weeks, The Light FM will be commemorating its anniversary by airing several special segments, including audio of Billy Graham sharing the vision he and Ruth had for the ministry and what they hoped it could be for years to come.
“Billy and Ruth Graham’s vision for changing people through Christian programming lives on moment by moment, day by day on The Light FM. All credit for these 60 vibrant years of ministry belongs to the Lord. I believe the Grahams would be the first to say ‘amen’ to that,” said Jim Kirkland, executive director of Blue Ridge Broadcasting. “The news of the unchanging hope of Jesus Christ for people living in always-changing times.”
In addition to vintage audio, The Light FM will also feature listeners’ stories of hope and how God used the station to encourage them. Listeners will be able to participate in The Light FM ‘Fun Facts and Trivia’ through social media platforms during the week as well.
“God’s faithfulness has been undeniable as He’s used this listener-supported ministry to encourage and transform lives for six decades,” said John Owens, general manager of Blue Ridge Broadcasting. “Generations of families have grown up engaging with this radio ministry. To God be the glory!”
