Crisis-trained chaplains minister to those hurting in the U.S. and abroad

The Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (RRT) is in northeast Nebraska after historic flooding damaged hundreds of homes, swamped roadways and killed at least three people.

In addition to heavy rain, the rising water was the result of snow melting and overflowing into rivers after the previous week’s bomb cyclone that brought high winds and blizzard conditions to the central U.S.

“As the floodwaters rise, we realize that the depth of loss is affecting thousands of families in Nebraska and surrounding regions,” said International Director of the RRT Jack Munday.

Ten crisis-trained chaplains are on the ground offering emotional and spiritual care to all those affected.

Multiple chaplains were also deployed in various areas around the world, including Lee County, Ala., due to deadly tornadoes, and Northern Queensland, Australia, following historic flooding.

Upcoming events with Franklin Graham

Franklin Graham is preparing for an evangelistic event called Festival de Esperanza, where he will share the Gospel in Cucuta, Colombia, along the Venezuela border, on April 19-20.

Director of Latin America affairs for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), Chris Swanson, recalls hearing Graham talk about his desire to help those seeking relief. Graham witnessed the crisis firsthand.

“What came to light for [Franklin] was an area of huge need relating to the refugee crisis,” Swanson said. That, along with Colombians’ requests for him to preach in the region, resulted in the quick planning for this Festival.

Following Graham’s upcoming Festival, he will begin the Decision America Northeast Tour in May. For more information about the tour dates and locations, or to see more from the BGEA, visit billygraham.org.

Will Graham signs copies of Redeemed devotional

On Saturday, March 30, a crowd joined Will Graham at his book signing for Redeemed: Devotions for the Longing Soul at Christian Supply in Roebuck, S.C.

Released last fall, Graham’s first book includes 50 devotions about understanding God’s love. It also features stories of his grandfather, “Daddy Bill”—known to the world as Billy Graham—his grandmother, Ruth Graham, and his own experiences.

“Every morning you’ll read the Word of God because that’s the most important thing,” Graham said. “It really doesn’t matter what I say or what my granddad says. It’s really what God says.”
