CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 7, 2020 – Blue Ridge Broadcasting (BRB), a listener-supported ministry of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, has entered an agreement with GHB, Inc. to purchase translator W282BP in Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as station WAVO-AM and its FM translator, W268DM, in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Pending approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the purchase will allow the ministry to fulfill a goal of providing its long-established Christ-centered programming on a clearer signal to people in parts of Charlotte and the Rock Hill/Ft. Mill area. WAVO is broadcast on 1150 AM and W268DM is heard on 101.5 FM. W282BP, which is presently off-air, broadcasts on 104.3 FM.
“As the Charlotte region grows to the south and southeast, and further from our antenna located on Mt. Mitchell, we sought ways to improve the listening experience for listeners in the metro area. These stations give The Light FM a big jump toward achieving that ministry goal,” said Jim Kirkland, executive director of BRB. “It’s also an honor to continue GHB’s 47-year legacy of providing Christ-centered content to the people of the Charlotte region.”
BRB was founded by Billy Graham and his wife, Ruth, in 1962. The purchase of the Charlotte FM translator will mark the corporation’s first radio station licensed within Mecklenburg County, where Graham was born, and where the ministry bearing his name is now headquartered.
Upon FCC approval, BRB will request that the stations be licensed as non-commercial, setting the stage to share the Christian music and Bible messages from The Light FM.
