Blue Ridge Broadcasting collects National Religious Broadcasters’ honors

ASHEVILLE, N.C., June 25, 2021 – Blue Ridge Broadcasting (BRB) has been recognized with a pair of accolades from the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), which recently released its list of 2021 Media and Special Service Award recipients. On-air personality Louis Grant was honored with the 2021 Milestone for his 50 years of continuous service in broadcast ministry, and BRB’s Commencement Live 2020 was named the 2021 Most Innovative Digital Method.

Grant has hosted a variety of programs and is best known for his three-decade tenure as the overnight host on The Light FM—BRB’s flagship station—reassuring and encouraging listeners with his unique observations and scriptural examples.

“Louis is a well-known and greatly-loved Christian influencer in Asheville,” said John Owens, general manager of BRB. “He recounts stories of his time with Billy Graham in his early days at the station and we know it is a blessing that he impacted our station family and the families of listeners across seven states for 50 years now, from turntables and transistors to WAV files and smart speakers.”

Commencement Live 2020, a virtual graduation celebration which earned BRB its first-ever digital media award, featured live prayer, congratulatory messages from popular Christian musical artists, a commencement speech from a local pastor and a closing prayer from NFL Hall of Fame Coach Tony Dungy. More than 4,000 people watched the event live on June 4, 2020.

“Commencement Live 2020 was truly a labor of love,” said Owens. “The 2020 senior class had already lost so many experiences during the coronavirus pandemic, we wanted to do something to make their graduation as special as possible. We appreciate all of the pastors, musical artists and other speakers who took the time to support this initiative and helped it to reach so many people.”
