Chaplains with the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (BG-RRT) have responded to Highland Park, Illinois, 27 miles north of Chicago, after a gunman on a rooftop opened fire on a crowd at a Fourth of July parade. Seven people were killed and at least 30 others are injured.
“What an incredibly frightening situation. There are no words to lessen the pain of those families who are grieving right now,” said Josh Holland, international director of the BG-RRT. “We are sending our crisis-trained chaplains to comfort people, listen and grieve with them, pray with them and share God’s love with those who have been impacted by this horrific tragedy.”
BG-RRT chaplains are now serving in three locations. Besides Highland Park, crisis-trained chaplains are serving in Allen, Kentucky, after three officers were shot and killed. They are also ministering in Mora, New Mexico, after intense wildfires burned more than 312,000 acres.
