Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplains deploy to Buchanan County, Virginia, after massive flooding

BG-RRT Press Kit

Chaplains with the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (BG-RRT) have deployed to Buchanan County, Virginia, following flash flooding that took place July 12. Heavy rains in the southwest part of Virginia caused flooding, power outages, and damaged more than 100 homes. Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has declared a state of emergency and said the state will make every resource available. BG-RRT chaplains offer comfort, compassion and prayer to those suffering.

“As we see the many lives impacted because of this flooding in Buchanan County, our hearts are heavy for those who have suffered great loss,” said Richard Brown, senior manager of deployments and operations of the BG-RRT. “Our crisis-trained chaplains will be there to provide emotional and spiritual care as the area begins the recovery process.”

The team of crisis-trained chaplains are working in conjunction with disaster relief organization Samaritan’s Purse to help meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those impacted by the flooding.

Besides Buchanan County, BG-RRT chaplains are serving in Ukraine, offering comfort, hope and compassion to families who have been forced to flee their homes.

It has since grown into an international network of chaplains in the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia who are specifically trained to deal with crisis situations. They have deployed to more than 550 disaster sites across the globe, including shootings, floods, hurricanes, wildfires and tornadoes.
